Experience the thrill of flying from the heart of the Capital!
Learn to fly in New Zealand’s vibrant capital city with one of the country’s only aero clubs operating from an international airport — and the only one based in the capital. Training at Wellington Airport gives you a uniquely exciting flying environment: you’ll learn to operate confidently inside controlled airspace, talk to Air Traffic Control alongside commercial jets and domestic traffic, and see Wellington’s stunning harbour and cityscape from the cockpit.
Just minutes away are two diverse training areas: the beautiful southern Wairarapa, with Lake Onoke, sweeping countryside and a coastline where dolphins often appear, and the dramatic Cook Strait to the west, offering spectacular views across the Marlborough Sounds, Mana Island and Kāpiti Island. With access to one of the largest low‑flying zones in the country and quick hops to Blenheim, Paraparaumu and Masterton, Wellington offers an unbeatable mix of scenery, challenge and opportunity for every aspiring pilot.
Wellington Aero Club is proud to be certified Zero Carbon Business Operations with Ekos. Each year we measure and offset our carbon footprint with certified carbon credits. This footprint includes our flying, business and support operations.
