Net Carbon Zero

Wellington Aero Club is officially certified Net Carbon Zero!

We are delighted to announce that Wellington Aero Club is now a certified Zero Carbon Business Operation in partnership with Ekos.

We have measured and offset the scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2 emissions of our business operations for the year measurement period 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023. This includes all flying activities at the club — our flying is now certified net carbon zero!

These certified carbon credits are sourced from projects that grow and protect forests in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.

While we recognise that carbon offsetting is not a solution to completely eliminating our carbon emissions, we believe it is a step in the right direction as we strive for a more sustainable operation. We are fairly certain that we are currently the largest aviation training organisation in New Zealand (operating aircraft) that has achieved Zero Carbon Business certification.

We hope that you can see that our commitment to the slight increase in the cost of flying time contributes towards a positive outcome regarding a situation that impacts us all in the aviation committee and across the planet.

The investment that helps us achieve this contribution towards offsetting our flight operations is added to the cost of each flight that uses a club aircraft. You will be helping the club contribute to this investment whether you are flying with an instructor or you’re flying solo or cross country. If you have any questions about how we can achieve this, please don't hesitate to contact us online or on the phone.
