Service to aviation and hard-work pay off

Simsy awarded Fédération Aéronautique Internationale Certificate of Gratitude

Andrew Sims, our fearless Chief Flight Instructor, needs no introduction. As many of you will know, Simsy is extremely passionate about getting youngsters into aviation. He has been a key part of the success of the annual Walsh Memorial Scout Flying School and the Young Eagles programme, dedicating a large amount of time and energy to ensure their success and impart his huge amount of experience and wisdom onto the next generation of aviators.

At the Flying NZ annual dinner on Saturday 17 July, at Whiskey Lima Golf in Wellington Airport, Simsy was awarded the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) Certificate of Gratitude in recognition of his significant contribution to Aviation.

The FAI is a non-governmental and non-profit making international organisation with the basic aim of furthering aeronautical and astronautical activities worldwide, ratifying world and continental records and coordinating the organisation of international competitions. FAI was founded on 14 October 1905, and is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Huge congratulations to both Rodney and Simsy!

Rodney Maas appointed as President for Flying NZ

Some of you will know fellow club member Rodney Maas. He's either flying the Nanchang or sitting in the front office with some KFC. What you might not know is that, for a number of years now, Rodney has been the Cook Straight Representative for Flying NZ which represents around 40 aero clubs nationwide, including Wellington Aero Club.

At the Flying NZ Annual General Meeting, that took place in Wellington yesterday, Rodney was elected to the position of President. This is a fantastic achievement, along with a big commitment to furthering club aviation across New Zealand, and I'm sure you'll all join me in congratulating Rodney and wishing him all the best for his tenure.
